Captain Me Hani Ita Mala Lo, or Captain Lo, is a descendant of Me Hani Ika Hali Ka Po, one of the most famous Xaheans in history, and a very distant member of the royal family. She was born in 2330 on the Miranda-class Federation starship USS Prospero to two Starfleet Officers. She spent most of her larval stage on the ship. USS Prospero was old, and spent a long time between stations, so Lo learned a lot about keeping things going.
In the 2350s, the Cardassian Wars began, and nearby Xahea was under threat. Lo joined the Xahean defense forces, and as he is a distant relative of the royal family, Lo was initially assigned to the Royal Guard. He distinguished himself with excellent planning and novel escape routes. Eventually he was promoted to Captain and commanded one of the few Xahean ships.
In 2366, Cardassia and the Federation agreed to a ceasefire and creation of the Demilitarized Zone. He decided to transfer to Starfleet, taking a demotion to Commander. Lo again served with distinction. Using novel tactics, she set one of the records for longest survival time on the Kobayashi Maru test. However it was technically accomplished by a clever retreat. Some began to sarcastically refer to any retreat as the “Lo Maneuver”. Regardless, she became known as an expert strategist in organized retreats and clever escapes.
After her dearest friend sacrificed themselves to activate the self-destruct on their compromised starship, Lo dedicated herself to rewriting Starfleet Protocols and Procedures around lockdowns and self-destructs.
Lo is a planner, and he is focused on survival. He is a strong advocate for more resiliency and redundancy in Starfleet designs, and updates to Protocols which prioritize saving lives and ships. In Lo's mind, sometimes that means firing first; so far he's had no luck getting that doctrine added to more official protocols. Instead, he advocates for hitting with maximum firepower when Starfleet finally does shoot second. This has not met with much success in official circles, either, though it has served him well on several missions.
In her personal life, Lo uses she/he pronouns. She code switches between genders rather frequently, but rarely chooses androgyny. She makes friends easily, but takes rank seriously when in uniform. She's had her share of romantic relationships, but nothing has stuck so far. She enjoys Tellarite folk music and various Xahean performance arts.
