The Wiki Guide
This guide isn't exhaustive, I'm sure that we've left out something that you might need help with, so by all means ask in the Ready Room on discord.
Namespaces
Namespaces are like folders, we are using them to organise the wiki a little. The following are the namespaces in use:
| Namespace | Description |
|---|---|
| guides | Used for user guides about how to use the wiki and plugins. |
| locations | General category. Used mostly for top-level categorization. Most entries should fall under a sub-category. |
| locations:asteroid_belts | Entries about asteroid belts. |
| locations:nebulae | Entries about nebulae. |
| locations:planets | Entries about planets or inhabited moons. |
| locations:sectors | Entries about sectors in space. |
| locations:systems | Entries about star systems. |
| news | Used to communicate updates about recent activity on the site. |
| people | Entries about player characters and non-player characters. |
| playground | A sandbox area where users may learn to use the system or try out edits before applying them to live pages. |
| science | General category. Used mostly for top-level categorization. Most entries should fall under a sub-category. |
| science:fauna | Entries about animal life. |
| science:flora | Entries about plant life. |
| society_and_culture | General category. Used mostly for top-level categorization. Most entries should fall under a sub-category. |
| society_and_culture:organizations | Entries about corporate, military, political, or other groups of individual sentient beings. |
| society_and_culture:species | Entries about specific sentient species. |
| technology | General category. Used mostly for top-level categorization. Most entries should fall under a sub-category. |
| technology:holodeck_programs | Entries about specific holodeck programs or holonovels. |
| technology:shuttlecraft | Entries about specific small spacecraft intended for short-distance travel or as supplementary craft for larger space vessels. |
| technology:starbases | Entries about space stations or other permanent constructed space habitats or structures that do not reach the scale of moon or planet. (i.e. the Death Star from Star Wars would not go here. It would properly go under locations:planets as an Artificial Planet, since inhabited moons are placed under the planet namespace.) |
| technology:starships | Entries about spacecraft intended for medium- to long-distance travel. |
| technology:sentient_computers | Entries about constructed devices that have achieved sentience. Generally, this category is reserved for those sentients that are housed in immobile structures. Artificially constructed sentients that reside in android, gynoid, or other representations of an organic sentient species's body, or are otherwise intended to be locomotory would rightly be placed under the people namespace. |
| template | Used to house basic templates for the various namespaces. |
| user | Used for pages about individuals who edit or maintain this site. |
| wiki | Umbrella namespace for The Fleet of Whimsy portion of the leagueofwhimsy site. |
Tagging
For organisational purposes, it is very important that you tag your pages correctly. We're using tags to auto-generate indexes and generally keep up with the wiki maintenance, so it is genuinely appreciated.
To add tags to a page, use the following syntax:
{{tag>tags go here}}
Examples:
{{tag>tag1 tag2 tag3}}
- with namespaces:
{{tag>ns1:tag1 ns1:tag2 ns2:subns1:tag3}}
- multiple word tags:
{{tag>tag1_with_multiple_words tag2 tag3_part}}
{{tag>"tag with spaces" tag2}}
– Within quotes you can use spaces. The tag is stored internally with underscores _.
The following subsections are suggestions of how to tag specific types of pages. Obviously, only use the tags where applicable.
Two tags that are always applicable are Streampunks_Use_OK and the credit tag, which you should format as user:username.
